Missouri football is 9-2 on the season after a strong win over Florida in Columbia, 33-31.

The Tigers and Gators traded the lead 8 times in a fantastic SEC East matchup. The Tigers are now 1 win away from their first 10-win season since 2014. Missouri faces off against Arkansas next week for its final regular season matchup of the season.

Here are 3 takeaways from Missouri’s exciting win:

Huge swing makes the difference, clutch final drive ends it

That was a very fun football game.

Missouri and Florida traded the lead 8 times Saturday night. And one of the more underappreciated sequences of the game happened very quickly right as it looked as if Florida was going to take the lead to start the 4th quarter.

Florida was driving, looking to take a lead with QB Graham Mertz out of the game after suffering an apparent shoulder/collarbone injury. Max Brown entered in relief for Mertz and fumbled as the Gators neared the end zone.

Just 2 plays later, Theo Wease was standing in the end zone. Instead of a 28-23 Florida lead, the Tigers led by 2 possessions, 30-21.

Check out the defensive stand and ensuing touchdown below:

Florida made things interesting following this sequence. The Gators actually took the lead, 31-30 with under 2 minutes remaining.

But it was Harrison Mevis and Brady Cook to the rescue, just as it was against Kansas State. Cook drove the Tigers the length of the field, giving Harrison Mevis a chip-shot 30-yard field goal for the win.

At one point, Cook faced a 4th and 18 and still was able to find Luther Burden down the middle of the field for a huge gain. He made a couple more big completions after that to ice it.

Cody Schrader continues to be an All-American talent for the Tigers

Cody Schrader is a lot of fun, folks.

Schrader is – and has been – and All-American talent at running back. The former walk-on started the day by rushing for 123 yards and a touchdown in the first 30 minutes alone, including this rush to give the Tigers a 10-7 lead:

He finished Saturday’s game with 23 carries for 148 yards and the above touchdown, leading all rushers for both teams.

Tigers to NY6?

Missouri is in excellent shape to crack a NY6 bowl this season with just 1 regular season game to go against hapless Arkansas.

Rivalry week is rivalry week and anything can happen in college football, but if the Tigers can knock off the Razorbacks they’ll finish with a 10-2 record and a top 10 CFP ranking. That’s definitely enough to earn a trip to one of the top bowls in the country.

Alabama is obviously going to earn a spot in a NY6 barring a huge collapse against Auburn. Missouri hasn’t really been in the conversation for a NY6 with how well Ole Miss was playing, but a stinker against Georgia compared with Missouri’s close battle against the Bulldogs means Mizzou should be higher in the pecking order should they win well against Arkansas.
