After starting the 2017 season 1-5, many (including yours truly) felt Mizzou coach Barry Odom might have coached his way onto the hot seat.

However, the Tigers have now won three-straight games, and have played much better since a 1-3 start to the year. That turnaround dates back to a fiery speech Odom gave going into the Tigers’ bye in Week 5.

During his Monday press conference, Odom said the speech didn’t change anything and that the changes were already going on behind the scenes. The only difference, he added, is that the Tigers are now playing better on Saturdays (via KansasCity.com):

“I could see change happening and going on. We weren’t getting it done on Saturday,” he said. “We’ve still got a long ways to go but I just want us to continue to execute and prepare the right way.

“More than anything, the investment that it takes from the time that game was over Saturday to try and get to kickoff the next Saturday is the most important time. For us to understand that as a program, we’ve embraced it a little more.”

The Tigers have a winnable game against a struggling Tennessee team this weekend with a chance to improve to 5-5 and take another step toward an improbably bowl berth.
