The Denver Broncos are a team undergoing a major transition. Vic Fangio is entering his first year as head coach, and he needs to get the proud franchise back on track.

One big question is at quarterback, where veteran Joe Flacco is expected to start ahead of former Mizzou star and 2019 second-round pick Drew Lock.

On Sunday, Fangio confirmed that Flacco would be getting all first-team reps when OTAs start this week. He added that Lock will compete with Kevin Hogan and Brett Rypien for the backup spot (via DenverBroncos.com):

At quarterback, Joe Flacco will take all of the repetitions with the first team, Fangio said. After that, Fangio expects Kevin Hogan, Drew Lock and Brett Rypien to be mixed in “randomly.”

“We’ve got open competition after [Flacco],” Fangio said. “We’ll randomly play those guys with the twos and the threes when we do our reps.”

Lock is seen by many as the quarterback of the future in Denver, but it would benefit him to sit behind Flacco this fall.

Will he win the top backup job? We’ll see how he fares against the Broncos’ defense this week at OTAs.
