Chase Daniel shares how Mizzou will benefit from close call with Vanderbilt
Chase Daniel knows what success at Missouri looks like.
Way back in 2007 — yeah, it’s been that long — Daniel was a 2nd-team All-American, the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and finished 4th in the Heisman Trophy voting. He also led the Tigers to a 12-2 record and a spot in that season’s Big 12 Championship Game.
So Daniel, who’s now 37, has a unique perspective now that Missouri football is firmly back on the national map with a No. 7 ranking in the AP Poll. On Saturday night, Daniel watched nervously like all Tigers fans as Mizzou flirted with disaster at home against Vanderbilt but lived to tell about it, as the Tigers survived with a 30-27 overtime victory to improve to 4-0 and keep their dream season alive.
“I remember when we’d lose games like this … survive the day & move on,” wrote Daniel after the game.
“Lots to learn from this game,” continued Daniel. “We still pulled it together and got a character win!”

This is a GOOD thing for us. Sometimes you have days like this….Coaching staff is going to get to coach!!#MIZ

But Daniel wasn’t done. He reasoned that the ugly victory, the 2nd time in 2 weeks that Missouri looked defeat straight in the eyes and didn’t blink, would actually be a positive for the Tigers going forward.
“This is a GOOD thing for us. Sometimes you have days like this … Coaching staff is going to get to coach!!” wrote Daniel.
The Tigers will give their exhausted fans a break in Week 5 as they have a bye before visiting No. 25 Texas A&M on Oct. 5.
