Some unfortunate news to share for SEC hoop fans as the upcoming LSU at Missouri matchup has just been postponed due to rising COVID numbers with the Mizzou program.

The league announced this news on Friday.

The league hopes to reschedule the matchup but no date has been determined for a potential game at this time.

This marks the second SEC basketball game that had to be postponed this weekend as the South Carolina at Ole Miss matchup also had to be rescheduled.

While these postponements are unfortunate, credit the league for getting creative with the schedule as LSU and Ole Miss are now scheduled to meet in Oxford after COVID issues being experienced with Missouri and South Carolina.

Here is the statement issued by the SEC:

The LSU at Missouri men’s basketball game of January 9 has been postponed due to a combination of positive tests, contact tracing and subsequent quarantining of individuals within the Missouri basketball program, consistent with Southeastern Conference COVID-19 management requirements. A make-up date has not been determined at this time.

With the South Carolina at Ole Miss game scheduled for Jan. 9 also postponed, the LSU at Ole Miss game originally scheduled for Feb. 17 will now be played at 8:30 pm ET on Jan. 9 and will be available on SEC Network. Additionally, the Mississippi State at Vanderbilt game on Jan. 9 will now start at 6 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
