Dennis Gates had high praise for his school’s football team after the end of the regular season.

After Missouri basketball’s win over Layola on Saturday, Gates opened his press conference by congratulating Eli Drinkwitz and the entire football team.

“First I want to congratulate our football team,” Gates said. “10-2 is a tremendous feat by Coach Drinkwitz, his entire staff and his entire program. We got a great quarterback, we got a great running back, we got a great wide receiver, a couple great wide receivers. But those guys in the trenches, offensive line, defensive line, I credit each and every last one of you for your unselfishness and also your dedication. You guys have done a tremendous job and I’m proud of our football team and the way our crowd has rallied behind them.”

He also thinks that there will be some hardware headed to Missouri’s football team after the outstanding year.

“Coach Drink, SEC Coach of the Year,” Gates said. “We should have offensive player of the year, defensive player of the year, fans of the year and everything else.”

Now Gates is looking to have similar success this basketball season. The Tigers are 5-2 on the season after suffering some early losses, but Missouri still has plenty of time to put together a solid season.
