Eli Drinkwitz told listeners at the SEC’s weekly teleconference Wednesday that he does not believe Brady Cook has played a perfect game yet.

Obviously.

He doesn’t mean that as a slight to Cook. In fact, it’s the opposite. By its nature, the quarterback position is complex and nobody is going to be perfect.

Cook has started out the 2023 season having thrown for 376 yards, 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions through 2 games. Nothing crazy or especially impressive, but nothing to lose the Tigers the game either.

Here’s Drinkwitz’s evaluation of Cook from Wednesday:

“The quarterback position is not a game without errors. There’s going to be errors throughout the game and you’ve got to continue to grow and eliminate the mistakes that you have and I think Brady’s doing a better job each and every week of doing that. Has he played a perfect game yet? No. But is he growing, absolutely. Do we have to take some plays off the tape as a consistent disciplined decision-maker, yes. But that’s the job of coaches is to continue to get those guys prepared for their opportunities and the job of the player is when the opportunity arises, to make the right play. We have all the faith in the world that Brady’s going to continue to grow and get better.”

The Tigers face their first real test of the season this Saturday by hosting No. 15 Kansas State. The game is set to kick at Noon ET on SEC Network.
