Eli Drinkwitz discusses Mizzou QB competition entering spring practice

Eli Drinkwitz’s Mizzou squad is back on the practice field. Tiger fans, however, should not expect to hear a starting quarterback named when the spring session comes to a close.
Drinkwitz met with the media on Saturday. Mizzou reporters shared some of the highlights of that press conference on Twitter.
Tyler Macon and Brady Cook are the returning quarterbacks with experience from 2021. Drinkwitz said it’s important for them to know that the job won’t be decided over the 15 spring practices.
Drinkwitz: “It’s important for Tyle (Macon) and Brady (Cook) to know that jobs won’t be earned in the spring.”

Mizzou signed Collins Hill standout Sam Horn in December. A Suwanee, Georgia native, Horn was rated 4-stars and the No. 8 QB of the 2022 class on the 247Sports Composite. He’s not yet enrolled, but will get an opportunity to compete for the starting job when he joins the team this summer, Drinkwitz told reporters.
Drinkwitz: There will be no announcement about who is the starting QB at the end of spring practices. Says Sam Horn will have a chance to compete for the job when he gets here in the summer. He declined comment on recruiting any other potential QB/transfer QB

The next Tiger starting quarterback might not be with Mizzou just yet. There have been plenty of rumors about Arizona State transfer Jayden Daniels landing at MU. Drinkwitz, of course, can’t comment on a player being recruited.
Asked if he can and/or will update the much-discussed transfer QB recruiting situation — Jayden Daniels visited yesterday per @PowerMizzoucom — Eli Drinkwitz said he can’t talk about it. Had to ask. Intrigue continues.

Sounds like there are 3 (or 4) candidates to be Mizzou’s QB1 in 2022. We’ll see how things play out over the coming months.
