Eli Drinkwitz was thrilled after his team pulled out a win over the Kentucky Wildcats on the road.

The Wildcats were up 14-0 after the first quarter, and the Mizzou offense looked completely anemic. However, after the 1st, the Tigers outscored the Wildcats 38-7. The win improved the Tigers to 2-1 in SEC play and 6-1 overall.

Speaking with Cole Cubelic on the SEC Network after the game, Drinkwitz spoke on his team’s impressive win, and credited one of his assistant coaches:

“Just talks about the character of our team, the leadership of our team. Unbelievable to be down 14 and score 38 to win the game, defense was unbelievable forcing turnovers in the second half, man, that’s a big-time win. I just think that there was a relief that we were going to be in the game. We talked about this is going to be a heavyweight fight. I have a ton of respect for Coach Stoops and his team, and we knew it was going to be a four-quarter fight and we just needed to land a blow. Hat’s off to Erik Link. Erik Link spotted that and said we could do it and we practiced it all week, so hat’s off to him. Why stop now, let’s keep going.

Drinkwitz’s shoutout to Erik Link was regarding the team’s fake punt that resulted in a TD. Punter Luke Bauer threw a perfect ball to receiver Marquis Johnson to not only convert the 4th down but score a TD. That play was a turning point in the game, with the Wildcats never getting the momentum back.

The Tigers will next face the South Carolina Gamecocks as they look to stay competitive in the SEC East.
