Eli Drinkwitz appeared on the Paul Finebaum Show on Wednesday to help preview Mizzou’s Week 9 road to Tuscaloosa.
In doing so, Drinkwitz reflected on what happened the last time Missouri played in an SEC road game. Earlier this month, the Tigers were trounced on the road at Texas A&M, 41-10.
While talking with Finebaum, Drinkwitz said he thinks Missouri’s coaching staff tried to do too much from a game-planning perspective in the lead-up to the game in College Station.
“I think we came off of a bye week and I think as a coaching staff, we had way too much scheme in,” Drinkwitz said. “We tried to win it from the press box. And the reality of it is, football is won by the players on the field. Players playing fast wins football games. And so I think it was a great lesson for me. I take total responsibility for that and I think hopefully we’ll carry that lesson into this game.”
Here’s video of Drinkwitz’s comments:

Both Missouri and Alabama are in desperate need of a victory this weekend. A third loss for Alabama would almost certainly knock the Tide out of College Football Playoff contention for this season. A second defeat for Mizzou may do the same. At the very least, Mizzou’s margin-for-error would be gone for the remainder of the 2024 season.
Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
