Eli Drinkwitz and the No. 14 Missouri Tigers are well aware of the magnitude of Saturday’s matchup against top-ranked Georgia.

But, Drinkwitz said at his press conference Tuesday that he wants his team to treat its road contest against the Bulldogs like any other game this season.

Drinkwitz uttered those words to his team last Tuesday.

“Irregardless after the game, it’s nothing we can control,” Drinkwitz said. “There’s going to be 2 different narratives: If we lose, there’s nothing left to play for because of what’s at stake in the game, which we know is not true. If we win, we’ll assume that we have to win the East, which is not true because we still have 3 games left against SEC opponents.”

The Tigers (7-1) are coming out of a bye week and a 34-12 win over South Carolina a couple of weeks ago.

The job this Saturday, Drinkwitz said, is to get the victory.

“The job of the media and social media is to create narratives. Our job is to ignore them and try to be 1-0,” Drinkwitz added.

In terms of what’s at stake against Georgia, Drinkwitz it’s no different from when Mizzou beat Vanderbilt and Kentucky on the road and, more recently, the Gamecocks on its home field.

“If you don’t play well or lose those games, you lose any other opportunity,” Drinkwitz said. “To try to say that (versus Georgia) is bigger than (other SEC contests) is not what 1-0 means.”

The Tigers and Bulldogs (8-0) are set to square off this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on CBS.
