ESPN's FPI predicts Boston College at Mizzou showdown
ESPN’s Football Power Index gave its prediction for the upcoming game between a pair of 2-0 squads in Missouri and Boston College. The FPI gives the Tigers a 76.7% chance to win the non conference matchup.
Ranked No. 6 in the most recent AP Poll, Eliah Drinkwitz’ squad is riding high coming into this game. The Tigers became the first FBS team since 2019 to hold their first two opponents scoreless when they beat Buffalo 38-0 over the weekend, as new defensive coordinator Corey Batoon has not allowed the unit to miss a step. Brady Cook and the Mizzou offense have been efficient, with the likes of Luther Burden III and Theo Wease starring alongside newcomers Nate Noel and Marcus Carroll.
Boston College broke into the Top 25 following its own 2-0 start. First-year coach Bill O’Brien has a dynamic quarterback in Thomas Castellanos to pair with a deep running back room and another stingy BC defense, and that all allowed his team to take down Florida State on Labor Day night. A win over the Tigers would be yet another signature win for O’Brien as he attempts to turn the Eagle program into a consistent contender.
This is the return trip of a home-and-home between these two teams. The Eagles took Mizzou down 41-34 in overtime during a 2021 meeting in Chestnut Hill, as the Tigers rallied from trailing 27-17 to start the fourth quarter and forced overtime with a 56-yard field goal as time expired from Harrison Mevis. Zay Flowers scored a touchdown for BC in the overtime period, and Mizzou was held scoreless on its possession.
The Tigers and Eagles are set to kickoff at 12:45 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
