Former Mizzou assistant Dave Steckel spent the 2001 through 2014 seasons with the Tigers in a variety of roles, including defensive coordinator.
He then was hired as Missouri State’s head coach, spending the past 5 seasons with the Bears and compiling a 13-42 overall record.
Now, he is stepping down, as the school and Steckel have reached an agreement to move on:
According to the terms of the agreement, Steckel, will step down from his head coaching position, and the university will provide him with a maximum buyout of $340,000, plus moving expenses. The privately-funded buyout would be payable in three annual installments with the first installment of $140,000 and two subsequent payments in January of 2021 and 2022 of $100,000 apiece, depending on Steckel’s coaching status at that time.
Now, Missouri State will hunt for a new coach. What’s next for Steckel remains to be seen.
