Former Mizzou QB Blaine Gabbert has only been in the NFL six years, but has already had six different offensive coordinators.

Now with the Arizona Cardinals, Gabbert — a former first-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars — is hoping for some coaching staff stability as he competes to earn a spot backing up starter Carson Palmer.

Gabbert told AZCentral.com that he has enjoyed working with coach Bruce Arians so far and hopes to stay in a stable environment for a few years:

“Consistency is huge in any profession, whether it’s football, baseball, basketball or a job in the real world,” he said. “When you have a consistent surrounding cast, a consistent coaching staff, that’s going to kind of breed throughout the organization. So I just haven’t been fortunate enough to have that. But I’m always looking for it and that’s what they have here. They have a consistent staff and B.A. has done a great job building this team.”

Gabbert will compete with Drew Stanton, Zac Dysert and former Texas A&M QB Trevor Knight to land a roster spot as a quarterback for the Cardinals. The ex-Tiger, who spent the last three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, said he’s studying the playbook to put himself in the best position to succeed with Arizona:

“The more reps you get, the easier it becomes,” he said. “The beautiful thing about football is that there’s only so many concepts you can run. It’s really just the verbiage. As long as you paint the picture in your head, and learn the new verbiage, you’ll be all right.”

In 43 career games, Gabbert has thrown for 7,351 yards and 80 touchdowns, to go with 37 interceptions.

He earned the starting job in San Francisco last year before losing it to Collin Kaepernick midway through the season.
