Missouri receiver Khmari Thompson announces decision to enter transfer portal
Mizzou’s depth at receiver looks to be taking a hit this week as sophomore Khmari Thompson has announced his decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal.
Thompson, a native of Lawrenceville, Ga., has yet to catch a pass for the Tigers in his two seasons with the program (one of those years was spent as a redshirt player). Thompson was a three-star member of the program’s 2018 recruiting class.
Thompson released a statement on Monday, thanking both Barry Odom and Eli Drinkwitz for allowing him to grow on and off the field, but he also notes that he and his family believe it best to explore their options in the transfer portal.
“I’ve received nothing but love from the fans and locals from the state of Missouri,” Thompson wrote. “After many conversations with my family concerning my future as a student-athlete, I have decided to enters the transfer portal to seek out the best place to utilize my reaming eligibility and pursue my education.”
As always, it should be noted that just because a prospect has entered the portal, that does not mean they won’t return to the program. Entering the portal simply allows other coaches to contact the player in regards to a potential transfer without tampering.
Good luck young man and thank you for giving Mizzou a chance! I’m not sure how this effects guys like CJ Boone, Abrams-Draine, Luper or Maclin. Some of those guys may have been higher on the depth chart already, certainly Boone and Maclin, and Hester as well. But if Thomson ultimately decides not to transfer and stay that would be just fine too.
I hate to lose speed on my team. And Khmari may have been the fastest guy on our team. I really thought that would translate into more playing time. And I looked for him a lot this last season. I hope whatever has kept him from getting more snaps clears up and this young man finds his niche as a receiver which should be stretching the field and blowing by defenses. Good luck Mr Thompson whether you stay or go. Depth is crazy at receiver at Mizzou right now but is it quality depth?
Taking a hit at wide receiver?
No…. Mizzou is loaded at that position, and has grad transfers coming as well.
The story behind the story was the fact Mizzou was one over on the scholarship limit going into this year, so something had to give. Looks like this is where the scholarship problem has been rectified.
Good luck to this fine student athlete. (he also ran track)
Good luck to him. We’ve got a bunch of receivers and I think he was low man on the roster. Jalen Knox will play alot, and there are some solid freshman coming in (Hester and Maclin), and then the 2 transfers Damon Hazelton and Keke Chism (who looks pretty good).
Really don’t know much about our WR depth, but I would venture to guess that Drinkwitz looked at this as a weak spot considering he looked for the transfers to come in and help immediately. I think the younger guys are promising but outside of them it’s not looking great.
Without knowing anything(much like everyone else that works at and follows SDS), I would say if he has that much speed AND good hands he wouldn’t be far down the depth charts. Maybe UGA wants him or something, I wouldn’t blame the kid if that were the case.
Drinkz seems like a spread kind of guy so receivers should be thick as geese on a pond. Also Drinkz seems to be attracting talented kids right and left, so sorry Michael Wayne, but you’re worry wart piece seems a bit off tone for this version of Mizzou Football Tigers.
I think people will be surprise to see a huge jump on the offense due to Drinkwitz being the one setting up the offense and the offensive coaches are upgrade over Odoms’ offensive coaches.
