Luther Burden was the top-rated player in Mizzou’s historic 2022 recruiting class. Now, the 5-star receiver from East St. Louis is already making his presence felt in Columbia.
His first touch as a Tiger came on a Wildcat snap. It was not a great play call, but Burden used his speed and athleticism to somehow turn it into a 17-yard gain.
In the second quarter, Burden scored his first touchdown of his college career. Again, he took a play that should have been stopped behind the line of scrimmage, got through 4 defenders and found his way into the end zone:
Imagine being one of the top recruits in the country and exceeding every possible expectation in your debut.

This is exactly what Mizzou fans were hoping to see from their 5-star freshman. To Eli Drinkwitz’s credit, he seems to be willing to feed the budding star.
We’ll see how many more touches Burden gets before the Week 1 matchup at Faurot Field is all said and done. Fans in attendance and watching on TV hope the answer is “a lot.”
