2016 was a whirlwind year for Maty Mauk.

The former Missouri quarterback was dismissed from the team in January, two days after a video surfaced showing the rising senior snorting a line of white powder. Mauk transferred to Eastern Kentucky for his final college season, but he played in just two games before a concussion and a shoulder injury ended his season prematurely. In those two games, Mauk completed 21-of-39 passes for 303 yards with a touchdown.

Mauk has dreams of playing in the NFL one day, but he is taking a detour by way of the CFL. The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced on Thursday that they had signed the former Missouri quarterback ahead of training camp, which begins on Sunday.

It’s a step in the right direction for Mauk’s hopes of playing football at the highest level, but he will have some competition on his hands. Also on the Roughriders roster is a former All-American and two-time Pro Bowler by the name of Vince Young.

In three seasons with the Tigers, Mauk compiled a 17-5 record as a starter and led them to the SEC Championship Game in his lone season as a full-time starter. He completed 52.7 percent of his passes for 4,373 yards with 42 touchdowns and 19 interceptions while also gaining 747 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
