When Missouri left the Big 12 for the SEC in the 2012 season, the Tigers lost one of their top on-field in Kansas. Mizzou AD Jim Sterk, however, is hopeful that the rivalry will be renewed in multiple sports, according to Tod Palmer of The Kansas City Star.

“I’d like for that to happen,” Sterk said at the Tiger Club of Kansas City Golf Tournament. “I think they made it a point when we left the (Big 12) that they weren’t going to play anymore, but we’re certainly open to that and I know (new men’s basketball coach) Cuonzo (Martin) will work on that behind the scenes and see if that can happen.”

KU basketball coach Bill Self has expressed interest in renewing the Border War, which Sterk acknowledged as encouraging for the prospect of seeing the Tigers take on the Jayhawks.

“In order to have a game, you need two willing partners, so we’re open to doing that in football and basketball and some of our other sports,” Sterk said. “That would be great to do.”

Missouri and Kansas had 120 meetings, starting in 1891. MU leads the all-time series 57-54-9, and won the last three games, including a 24-10 victory over Kansas in 2011.
