Mizzou bound? Sam Horn, 4-star Tigers QB signee, remains undrafted by MLB teams
Eli Drinkwitz appears to have received some good news about his quarterback room for 2022 and beyond. Through Day 2 of the MLB Draft, 4-star QB signee Sam Horn remains undrafted.
Horn, the standout quarterback of Collins Hill High School (Suwanee, Georgia), was rated the No. 8 quarterback of the 2022 recruiting class, a 4-star prospect, on the 247Sports Composite. A 2-sport athlete, Horn was also on the radar of MLB teams as a pitcher.
Through 10 rounds, however, Horn has not been selected. It appears he’ll be heading to Columbia and not the minor leagues.
Mizzou football and baseball fans can breathe fairly easy at the moment: QB Sam Horn was not selected in the first 10 rounds of the 2022 MLB Draft.

This offseason, Drinkwitz opted to not name a starting quarterback out of spring practice, saying Horn would get a shot at winning the job. Even if Drinkwitz goes with another option as the Week 1 starting QB, it’s a big boost to have a talented arm available in Horn. It’s also, obviously, great news for MU baseball.
Those tv color men were smart enough to know how good this recruiting class is for Missouri. In this game Horn shows that when he gets the strength that comes with being 20 something he’s really going to be a playmaker and extender
I think he’s a program changing kind of QB, like Drew Lock and Chase Daniel.
This is massive if only for the fact that in two years we won’t have as severe of a depth problem at QB
So our QB lineup is Abraham QB1 then Horn QB2 then Cook QB3 right? Temporarily. Then 2-3 games in or so Horn slots up to QB1. Anything less is asking for trouble at QB. I just don’t think Cook or Macon will be anything other than backups… at a UGA or Bama or Clemson I doubt they’d be rostered. Nothing personal, I want to win. Get Horn familiar with the playbook and get him out there.
I do think Abraham will start first though due to experience (and he does show some flashes of talent here or there so you never know, anyone could have a career year.. An Abraham career year is probably middle-of-the-pack for SEC).
One can make a strong argument for that strategy. We are 6 weeks from the first pass being thrown. I imagine Drink really is letting them decide it at practice this six weeks and the team will know in 5 weeks or less
I also agree with you Douglas! Abraham has the experience, but Horn will be it eventually because of talent.
Anyone’s guess is valid, but I really think Brady Cook is going to start the season. I don’t really understand why everyone thinks he’s not a capable QB, there’s simply not enough data on him to make that decision.
Based only on the bowl game and the spring game, I think he’s got some potential. He needs to develop, but that comes with experience. Drink should’ve benched Baz way sooner and we’d have a much better data set on what we have in Cook and Macon.
Brady is capable, capable of being a good backup plan.
Agreed. Cook is entering his third year in the program and knows the offense better than any of the other QBs on the roster. Drink has shown a preference for QBs who are in control of the offense, knowing when and where to go with the ball. Say what you will about Bazelak’s deficiencies as a QB, but he wasn’t confused about where the ball was supposed to go. I think Cook has already begun to show a similar grasp of the system.
And, in his limited playing time, Cook has shown excellent accuracy (80% completion rate) and has taken good care of the ball. He runs well and with a purpose. No, he doesn’t have an arm like Drew Lock, but who does? Chase Daniel didn’t have a big arm, either.
“So our QB lineup is Abraham QB1 then Horn QB2 then Cook QB3 right?”
That’s the way I see it ending up, or Horn/Cook flip or tie, but that’s nothing.
I am not as familiar with MU Baseball. How much will Horn help the baseball team, assuming he plays both sports.
Likely a a good amount. It’s a bit of a surprise he was undrafted considering his pre-draft rankings. Mizzou is effectively getting a AA or AAA prospect with true MLB potential long term assuming he develops. That said.. I think everyone knows the Baseball team will have to take a back seat to the Football program’s needs for Horn.
Maybe Sam will be another Drew “The Gator Killer” Lock.
Just in case he develops into both an NFL QB and MLB quality player
