Mizzou DT Terry Beckner Jr. may not get his name mentioned much on television broadcasts, but rest assured the Tigers’ coaches know the big 6-foot-4, 290 pounder is making an impact on the field.

Against Delaware State on Saturday, a 79-0 Mizzou win, Beckner only recorded two tackles, but also recovered a fumble and occupied multiple gaps all day long.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Mizzou coach Barry Odom has high expectations for the sophomore, but wants to keep the pressure off the budding star:

“He expects to be great, and I’m hesitant to use that word too many times — but I’ve got the same expectation for him,” said Mizzou coach Barry Odom after the Tigers scored 79 points, Beckner’s uniform number, in the shutout of Delaware State. “He’s got a tremendous ability level — maybe the strongest guy on the field.”

Senior LB Michael Scherer is also impressed by Beckner, but not because of his strength — what impresses Scherer is the defensive tackle’s quickness and agility:

“Terry is just a freak … God gave him a really good gift to play football,” Mizzou linebacker Michael Scherer said. “You see him make some plays, and you can’t believe it — I’m serious. Last week (against Georgia), I saw him swim (move) past two guys and then circle back into the gap he was supposed to be in and make the play. He did that last year, too.”

Beckner has a total of 13 tackles so far this season.
