Gary Pinkel was honored on the field on Saturday during the Georgia-Missouri game, but unfortunately, the Tigers misspelled the legendary coach’s name. On the jumbotron, Mizzou spelled it “Pinkle.”

Pinkel was honored for his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. Pinkel is a member of the Class of 2022. Pinkel is the winningest head coach at Mizzou (2001-15) and at Toledo (1991-2000).

During the first quarter of Saturday’s game against top-ranked Georgia, Pinkel was recognized on the field for his Hall of Fame honor, the Kansas City Star reported. He was flanked by several players who were part of his Tigers teams from 2001-15. Pinkel-coached Mizzou teams won 118 games, appeared in 10 bowl games and won 4 division titles: 2 in the SEC and 2 in the Big 12.

Pinkel was No. 20 for most wins in FBS history at the time of his retirement, Pinkel’s legacy as the winningest coach in school history at both Toledo and Missouri makes him one of only 3 coaches to hold the distinction at two Division I programs. He becomes the first coach from Toledo and the sixth coach from Missouri inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, a Mizzou release noted.

At the helm of the Tiger program, Pinkel won 5 conference division titles (Big 12 North – 2007, 2008, 2010; SEC Eastern – 2013, 2014); earned 10 bowl bids (6-4), and finished ranked 5 times – fourth (2007), fifth (2013), 14th (2014), 18th (2010) and 19th (2008).
