Mizzou got a big win on the recruiting trail Wednesday, picking up a commitment from 4-star defensive end Javion Hilson. Hilson is one of the top overall edge prospects in the country as a top-50 player for the 2025 recruiting cycle.
Hilson has changed his mind several times throughout the recruitment process, originally committing to Alabama when Nick Saban was still coaching the Crimson Tide. But with the major changes that followed the legendary head coach’s retirement, he committed to the Florida State Seminoles shortly after that news broke.
He was a member of the mass exodus of commitments from Florida State in the 2025 class in which Mike Norvell and Co. saw 7 ESPN 300 prospects de-commit following FSU’s severe struggles on the field.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Hilson chose Mizzou over a number of prestigious programs, including Texas, Michigan, Texas A&M, Syracuse and Pitt. He is listed as the No. 3 overall edge rusher in the class, the No. 7 overall prospect in the state of Florida and the No. 42 player in the nation for this cycle.
With his signing, Hilson is the highest-ranked player in Mizzou’s 2025 recruiting class. He joins 4-star QB Matt Zollers (No. 74 overal nationally) as the only top-100 prospects joining the Tigers so far.
Hilson ended his junior season at Cocoa High School with a total of 97 tackles, 44 quarterback hurries and 14 sacks, making a strong case for himself as he went into the senior year.
