Mizzou women's basketball coach Robin Pingeton responds to claims South Carolina fans spat on players
During the Mizzou-South Carolina women’s basketball game on Sunday night, things got quite chippy, with two Mizzou players earning suspensions for their part in an altercation on the court.
Somewhat surprisingly, no South Carolina players were ejected in the Gamecocks’ 64-54 victory, but it’s safe to say these two teams don’t like each other.
But, did some South Carolina fans take things too far? Mizzou coach Robin Pingeton spoke to the media on Tuesday and didn’t deny that some Gamecock fans spat at her players as they were leaving the court:

If that’s true, there’s no place for that in sports. Fans should never accost any player before, during or after the game.
The referees are there to keep things from getting out of hand, but it seems they didn’t quite do their jobs on Sunday night in Columbia (the South Carolina Columbia).
