Jimbo Fisher raves about early maturity of Nebraska QB Dylan Raiola

Jimbo Fisher has seen plenty of talented quarterbacks during his time coaching college football. As it relates to true freshman Dylan Raiola, Fisher sees another young player performing at a high level for Nebraska.
Speaking in a segment for College Sports on SiriusXM, Fisher admitted he’s impressed by Raiola’s natural accuracy with the ball, combined with his decision-making. The former head coach also praised the young quarterback for not panicking when things go south with a willingness to take a sack or throw the ball away if needed.
“He doesn’t miss open guys. I always say this: You don’t miss breakaways. He’s naturally accurate with the ball — the decision-making and accuracy,” said Fisher. “Even with his bad plays, he’s not panicking. There have been some tough plays, he’s not panicking, he’s dumping it off. Or take a sack or throw it away. Don’t be afraid to throw it away, and I think there’s a maturity there.”
However, it’s not all about Raiola. Fisher praised head coach Matt Rhule and the Husker staff for putting Raiola in a positive situation, but he also acknowledged the QB passes the eyeball test as a natural at the position.
“He’s in a good situation, but I’m really impressed with him… Does he pass the eyeball test? Does he have control of the game? He does,” explained Fisher. “The game doesn’t look too big for him, and he looks natural when he plays the position.”
Raiola has made just 2 career starts, but he is completing 73.7% of his passes to begin his career with 423 yards and 3 touchdowns. He has natural arm strength to threaten defenses with the deep ball while also avoiding the major mistake thus far.
