So much for the talk of realignment.

Following the Big Ten’s decision to cancel its fall football season, Nebraska has openly discussed the possibility of playing this fall — with or without the support of its league.

That led to some speculation that Nebraska could be interested in joining the Big 12, it’s worth noting that Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said on Wednesday he has not heard from anyone associated with Nebraska regarding a potential return to the league, and had notable Big Ten alums calling for the league to kick the Cornhuskers following their comments.

Now after all that back and forth, Nebraska has issued a statement on Thursday pledging its loyalty to the Big Ten:

“The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is a fully committed member of the Big Ten Conference. It is an unparalleled athletic and academic alliance.

“We have the greatest fans in college athletics. This has been a difficult and disappointing week for the Husker family. We all look forward to the day when we can cheer on our student-athletes, on the field and in the arena.”

While conference realignment is always a fun topic to discuss, it’s far more difficult to pull off now than it ever was before. It would appear Nebraska realized that fact this week.
