The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) has a new number for its hotline.

1-800-MY-RESET is the new National Problem Gambling Helpline after the NCPG lost it’s previous number of 1-800-GAMBLER last year.

This number is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is free and confidential for anyone seeking help regarding problem gambling or gambling addiction.

Memorable Number the Goal for NCPG

This latest number is an effort by the NCPG to make its helpline more memorable and easily accessible for those in need.

Following the loss of 1-800-GAMBLER to the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ), the NCPG was using 1-800-522-4700 as its national hotline.

NCPG Board of Directors President Derek Longmeier commented on the change in a press release.

“Problem gambling support should never be limited to a single moment or a single definition of harm. 1-800-MY-RESET reinforces that the National Problem Gambling Helpline is available at any stage—whether someone is worried about themselves, concerned about a family member, or simply looking for trusted guidance. Making the Helpline number easier to remember is a practical, meaningful step toward reducing barriers to care.”

The 1-800-522-4700 line will also remain active going forward as well. The adoption of the new number will vary by state based on regulatory requirements. However, the NCPG says it will promote the new 1-800-MY-RESET number going forward and encourage other states to do the same.

On top of the hotline, those looking for help can also access gambling support by texting 800GAM or by visiting www.1800myreset.org.

1-800-GAMBLER Lost in September

The NCPG announced it no longer had access to the 1-800-GAMBLER number in the fall after a New Jersey court told the organization it had to cease using it.

Control of the number was given to the CCGNJ, which had ownership of it and received $150,000 a year from the NCPG to use the number over the last three years.

However, with the deal expiring in May of last year, control went back to the CCGNJ solely.

The 1-800-GAMBLER number remains active for the CCGNJ, with the focus on resources and help in the state of New Jersey.

New Hotline Aims to Create More RG Accessibility

According to the NCPG, nearly 20 million US adults reported experiencing at least one indicator of gambling-related harm over the last year.

The NCPG remains committed to ensuring help for a gambling problem is always available and accessible.

Improving the national helpline is part of a broader public awareness strategy to mitigate gambling-related harm by educating communities, reducing stigma, and bringing gambling addiction to the forefront of public health efforts nationwide.

NCPG Executive Director Heather L. Maurer commented on the need to improve the hotline number in the release.

“With gambling now more accessible than ever, the National Problem Gambling Helpline is a critical lifeline. Making the number easier to remember helps ensure people across the country can quickly connect with high-quality, confidential support when they need it.”

Additional education and awareness related to 1-800-MY-RESET will continue throughout 2026 and 2027.
