The US online casino industry is showing no signs of slowing down.

Even in recent weeks, there’s been notable strides. Maine has passed legislation to become the eighth state to legalize online casinos. Virginia is currently debating adding online casinos with legislation in the state Senate.

Aside from all that, the seven current US online casino markets just surpassed a major milestone this week.

With Rhode Island reporting its December revenue on Friday, the US finished with $1.04 billion in iGaming revenue last month. It marks the first time that US online casinos have surpassed $1 billion in monthly revenue.

Major Markets All See Big Online Casino Revenue Growth

A year ago, December 2024 revenue for US iGaming was at $846.6 million. December 2025 saw that total grow by 22.3%.

The big three major markets of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Jersey all set new monthly revenue records last month, shattering the previous mark.

Michigan has the biggest change, setting a new record of $315.8 million, which bested the previous mark by over $37 million.

New Jersey set a new high for itself at $273.2 million, which topped its previous best by nearly $13 million.

Pennsylvania set a new US monthly revenue record in December with $324.3 million, which topped its previous mark by nearly $12 million.

Here’s a look at how each state performed in December compared to a year ago.

West Virginia Online Casinos Seeing Biggest Growth

While all seven iGaming states are seeing notable growth in revenue, West Virginia online casinos saw the biggest percentage uptick in December.

Coming in with $35.9 million last month, that was a 58.5% jump from December 2024. Only Rhode Island was the other state to see 50%+ growth year-over-year.

West Virginia is the only online casino state to publish its revenue weekly, so January numbers are already pouring in. It seems there is no slowing down for the state. Here’s how the revenue has stacked up thus far in the new year.

  • Week of Jan. 3: $9.21 million
  • Week of Jan. 10: $8.58 million
  • Week of Jan. 17: $8.11 million

The first week of January was the second-best week West Virginia has ever had. The week of Dec. 6 produced $9.66 million as the current peak performance. However, that was followed with back-to-back weeks of just over $7 million.

Each week of January has been well over $8 million in revenue. The Week of Jan. 10 stands as the fourth-best week of revenue in West Virginia iGaming history.

By comparison to a year ago, the first weeks of January 2025 were far less in revenue.

  • Week of Jan. 4, 2025: $6.54 million
  • Week of Jan. 11, 2025: $5.74 million
  • Week of Jan. 18, 2025: $5.27 million

While the year-over-year growth may not be able to keep the same pace throughout all of 2026, there’s no clear indicator of when it will slow down either.
