Casan Evans struck out 15 as No. 20 LSU picked up the 7-1 win over No. 8 Oklahoma in its series opener.
Evans went 7.2 IP, giving up just 3 hits, 1 walk, and 1 unearned run. On the other side, Oklahoma’s Cameron Johnson struggled to find the zone, walking 6 batters in just 1.1 IP. Johnson gave up 5 total runs, but only 1 of those was earned.
Freshman Omar Serna Jr. led the way for the Tigers, going 2-for-3 with one double.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in this game. After scoring one in the bottom of the first inning on a walk, the Tigers went and put up 4 runs in the bottom of the second.
A series of errors really hurt Oklahoma in the bottom second as they allowed 4 to score. Three throwing errors allowed the Tigers to get 3 across, and a single by John Pearson gave the Tigers their fourth run of the inning.
Oklahoma would settle down and eventually put a run up in the top of the 6th inning on a throwing error from LSU, but the Tigers would quickly respond, putting up 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh on a single from Zach Yorke.
The first pitch for the next game in this series is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday.
