College baseball predictions: NCAA Super Regional picks, analysis

The road to the College World Series continues this week with Super Regional action across 8 different campus sites.

The Regional round saw a slew of upsets, with 7 hosts bowing out before Supers. There was even more carnage across the SEC, as only 4 of the league’s 13 bids managed to make it out of NCAA Regionals. With No. 1 Vanderbilt and No. 2 Texas going home early, the road to the College World Series title is wide open for the 8 teams who make it out of Super Regional weekend.

NCAA Super Regional picks

Here are predictions for every Super Regional in 2025:

Louisville Super Regional

Teams: Louisville vs. Miami

Both Louisville and Miami pulled off upsets in order to get here. Miami was a No. 3 seed in the Hattiesburg Regional but emerged victorious. The Hurricanes and Murray State are the only teams who didn’t have a top-2 seed to reach the Super Regionals this year.

Although Louisville and Miami are both ACC programs, they did not meet in the regular season this year. Miami is an underdog in this series, but the Canes actually have the superior Warren Nolan ELO rating. However, Louisville is at home and I like how the Cardinals’ arms held up in the Nashville Super Regional.

Pick: Louisville -165

Corvallis Super Regional

Teams: No. 8 Oregon State vs. No. 9 Florida State

Both of these teams took care of business in their respective Regionals. These are both top-6 teams in the country according to ELO, so this may be the most evenly-matched Super Regional we have this season. It’s fitting that the betting markets have them at close to equal strength — Florida State -115 or Oregon State -105.

In a short series, I like FSU because of star lefty Jamie Arnold. He was outstanding in the Tallahassee Regional and will be very tough for Oregon State to beat. In the end, I think he’s the difference.

Pick: Florida State -115

Chapel Hill Super Regional

Teams: No. 5 North Carolina vs. Arizona

North Carolina was pretty convincing in the Chapel Hill Regional, losing just once to 2-seed Oklahoma. The Tar Heels did drop 1 spot to No. 3 in ELO, but they’re still an elite team. Arizona upset Oregon in the Eugene Regional in order to get here.

Carolina is a significant favorite for a reason — this is one of the best teams remaining in the field. I’ll take the Tar Heels.

Pick: North Carolina -330

Auburn Super Regional

Teams: No. 4 Auburn vs. No. 13 Coastal Carolina

This may be the most highly-anticipated Super Regional of the weekend. Auburn was one of the few SEC teams who took care of business in its regional, going 3-0. Coastal Carolina is now the No. 1 team in the country per ELO after sweeping the Conway Regional.

I made the mistake of picking Florida to win against Coastal. I’m not doing that again. The Chanticleers haven’t lost since April 22 and I think they’ll take at least 2-out-of-3 from the Tigers.

Pick: Coastal Carolina +125

Los Angeles Super Regional

Teams: No. 15 UCLA vs. UTSA

No one expected UTSA to make it this far after the Roadrunners got matched up with No. 2 overall seed Texas. But UTSA swept the Austin Regional with a blowout victory over Kansas State and 2 multi-run wins over the Longhorns. UCLA also swept its regional with an impressive offensive performance.

The Bruins have really struggled against elite competition this year, going just 2-7 against Quad 1 opponents (per ELO). UTSA is 9-5 in such games. Even with this series being played in Los Angeles, I don’t see a good reason why the Bruins are favored.

Pick: UTSA +145

Durham Super Regional

Teams: Murray State vs. Duke

Murray State is the Cinderella of this year’s field after the Racers stunned Ole Miss in Oxford over the weekend. The only 4-seed to emerge from this year’s Regional round, Murray State is up to No. 33 in ELO entering Supers weekend. Duke swept the Athens Regional and got great pitching performances all week long despite playing in a hitter’s park.

This is not fun to say, but I think the ride ends here for Murray State. I’m not sure the Racers have enough pitching and Duke’s arms were excellent during the Athens Regional, which makes me think the Blue Devils could win this series in a bunch of different ways. Even though Murray State won the Oxford Regional, it gave up double-digit runs in 3 of its 4 games there. I’m not sure the Racers’ offense can keep up against Duke’s staff.

Pick: Duke -390

Baton Rouge Super Regional

Teams: No. 6 LSU vs. West Virginia

LSU barely skated by Little Rock en route to a Super Regional. It will be very difficult to beat the Tigers 2-out-of-3 times at The Box. West Virginia upset Clemson to win that regional, but the Mountaineers are still outside of the top-25 in ELO.

I think LSU found something with freshman Cavan Evans in the decisive game against Little Rock on Monday. He gives the Tigers a complete rotation going into a Super Regional matchup where they’re heavily favored. WVU took advantage of collapses from Clemson and Kentucky, but I don’t think we’ll see something similar from LSU this weekend.

Pick: LSU -400

Fayetteville Super Regional

Teams: No. 3 Arkansas vs. No. 14 Tennessee

The lone SEC vs. SEC Super Regional this year matches up last year’s champion (Tennessee) with this year’s leader in College World Series betting odds. Both teams got here relatively unscathed out of their regionals.

Both Tennessee and Arkansas have great pitching staffs and are top-15 nationally in ERA, but only the Vols have a starter who could single-handedly flip a series in Liam Doyle. However, Doyle got lit up to the tune of 11 hits and 6 earned runs over 4.2 innings against this Arkansas lineup back on May 16. Both of these lineups are elite. I’ll give the edge to Arkansas because it has the better bullpen and will be playing at home.

Pick: Arkansas -130
