Florida nearly went 9 innings without a hit, but managed a walk-off win in extra innings to win its SEC opener against South Carolina. The Gators scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the 10th inning to top the Gamecocks 1-0.

No. 23 Florida notched just 2 hits in the victory. The winning run was delivered via a sacrifice fly off the bat of Cash Strayer.

South Carolina kept the Gators hitless through 8.2 innings. Miller broke up the no-no with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, but UF couldn’t cash in the run.

A 10th-inning walk-off meant that 2 stellar outings resulted in “no decisions.”

Florida’s Liam Peterson went 6 innings. He allowed 1 hit and walked 2, striking out 10 on 98 pitches. UF’s Friday night starter is racking up quite a few Ks this season.

On the other side, South Carolina’s Josh Gunther recorded 19 outs without a hit. He faced 24 batters on 94 pitches, striking out 5 and walking 3.

After dropping last weekend’s series to High Point, Florida is on a 3-game winning streak and 16-3 overall. South Carolina falls to 12-7 with the loss.

Florida and South Carolina will continue the series Saturday in Gainesville.
