Georgia is making sure Wes Johnson stays in Athens.
On Wednesday, UGA announced a contract extension with a raise for the head baseball coach who recently completed his second season leading the Bulldogs. Johnson’s new deal runs through 2031.
We are excited to announce a contract extension for Wes, Angie and their family,” Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks said in a released statement. “It has been incredible watching our baseball program thrive over the past two seasons. Wes is without a doubt one of the elite head baseball coaches in the country, and his commitment to winning at the highest levels is surpassed only by his dedication to making everyone around him better each and every day. We are excited about the future under his leadership.
Johnson’s new deal comes after he was linked to the opening at Mississippi State. Earlier this month, Johnson stated that he is happy in Athens but hopes to see more upgrades to the UGA baseball facilities. On Wednesday, he mentioned Georgia’s commitment to the baseball program.
I’d like to thank Josh Brooks, President Jere Morehead, and all our fans for their commitment to Georgia Baseball,” said Johnson. “We have received tremendous support from day one, and that is evident from the $45 million renovation that was completed this year that is vital for our player development, recruiting and the overall fan experience at Foley Field.
Johnson accepted the Georgia job while serving as pitching coach on the staff of 2023 national champion LSU. He has an 85-31 record at Georgia. In 2024, the Bulldogs enjoyed their best season since 2024, making an NCAA Super Regional. UGA is 42-14 in the 2025 campaign ahead of an SEC Tournament clash with Oklahoma at 5:30 p.m. ET.
