Florida baseball had been rolling entering the weekend on a 13-game winning streak. That’s quickly changed with High Point coming into Gainesville and taking the series from the No. 9 Gators with back-to-back wins.
It’s the highest-ranked series win ever for HPU, which downed the Gators 6-2 in Saturday’s Game 2 after a 7-2 Game 1 victory on Friday night.

In Game 1, Florida ace Liam Peterson went 5.1 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 1 hit and 4 walks while striking out 11, and the bullpen struggled. Game 2 played out differently.
Saturday starter Aidan King went only 3 innings. He gave up 5 runs on 7 hits, but none of the runs were earned.
High Point scored 5 of its 6 runs in the 3rd inning. The Panthers had 2 on with 2 outs when a single to short and a throwing error by the shortstop broke the scoring ice and prolonged the inning. The next 3 HPU batters went double, single, double to open up the 5-0 lead.
