Mizzou has been mired in one of the worst SEC baseball seasons anyone could imagine. However, the Tigers. mustered enough to stun Texas A&M — twice — to put a serious dent in the NCAA Tournament hopes of the Aggies.

It’s the latest bleak story for A&M, the program that entered the season as the preseason No. 1 team in the country. On the other hand, it’s a massive bright spot for Mizzou in what has been an otherworldly miserable season.

Coming into the weekend, the Tigers were 0-24 in SEC play. For comparison, South Carolina (5-22) was the only other SEC program with fewer than 10 conference wins this season.

The Tigers fixed their winless conference record on Friday by winning the series opener, and they doubled up on Saturday night. Mizzou got started right away, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning, punctuated by a solo home run from Chris Patterson.

The Tigers also received RBIs from Pierre Seals, Kaden Peer and Keegan Knutson. However, the big story in this one was Mizzou’s pitching that allowed just a lone run in the 4-1 win. Mizzou used 6 pitchers who did not allow a single earned run in stifling the Aggies.

Meanwhile, A&M had just 2 hits and 5 walks in the game, stranding 6 men on base. It was a particularly enemic output, even for the disastrous performance of the Aggies this season.

Now, A&M has just one final game against Mizzou and a season-ending series against Georgia to try and improve its outlook for the postseason ahead of the SEC Baseball Tournament.
