Texas remained at No. 2 in the D1Baseball Top 25 after its first loss of the 2026 season. The second loss of the season, however, might drop UT a few spots in the next poll.
The Longhorns were stunned in midweek action on Tuesday night by Tarleton State, falling 6-1 in Austin.

Tarleton State used 5 pitchers on the night. They kept Texas guessing as the Longhorns managed just 2 hits on the night.
The night started well enough for Jim Schlossnagle’s team with Carson Tinney hitting a solo homer to left field in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Longhorns, though, wouldn’t notch a second hit until the bottom of the 9th inning down 6-1. The 2-out single in the 9th did not start a rally, as the game ended with the next batter.
The Texans scored in 3 frames, doing most of their damage in a 4-run 4th inning. Tarleton State added runs in the 7th and the 9th. Texans batters had 8 hits, with none going for extra bases. They also walked 6 times in the game.
Schlossnagle kept perspective after suffering the midweek loss following an SEC series win over Ole Miss.
Jim Schlossnagle postgame on the radio:

“Winning a SEC series doesn’t make us a good team and losing tonight doesn’t make us a bad team”
“Tarleton State deserved to win and we did not deserve to win.”
Up next for Texas is a challenging road trip for a weekend series at No. 5 Auburn.
