Paul Finebaum explains how SEC facilities arms race has led to college baseball dominance

Paul Finebaum watched last year as Mississippi State beat Vanderbilt to win the College World Series title.

This year, the College World Series is set to feature at least 1 SEC team, either Arkansas or Ole Miss. On the other side of the bracket, Texas A&M will try to beat Oklahoma twice in a row to make it another all-SEC title series this season.

What has led to the SEC’s dominance, not just in football, but in baseball, too? Finebaum joined “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” on WJOX this week to discuss the importance of the investments the league has made in its facilities across all sports (via On3 Sports):

“I think really the resources are more important, you can have good baseball in the West,” Finebaum said, “but ultimately, this trend started years ago … where if you don’t have a top-notch facility, you’re not going to draw players. Now, everybody is trying to outdo each other. You take a drive through the SEC and your jaw drops at these facilities.

“These guys aren’t dissimilar to SEC football players. They’re looking for opportunities to get to the next level. You can do that from a lot of places, even more in baseball, but success breeds success.”
