Pete Alonso has made history for the New York Mets.

Alonso entered Tuesday with 252 career home runs, tied with Darryl Strawberry for the most homers hit in a Mets uniform. And in the bottom of the third inning with the Mets leading the Atlanta Braves 3-1, the former Florida star made it 253.

Here’s video of the history-making home run Alonso hit off Spencer Strider:

A second-round pick for the Mets in the 2016 MLB Draft, Alonso has staked his claim as one of the best players in franchise history. He broke through to the majors in 2019 and hit 51 home runs, a rookie record. A 5-time All-Star, he has hit 34 or more home runs in each of the past 4 seasons, including 40 in 2022 and 46 in 2023. In 2022, he led the Majors with 131 RBI.

Following the 2024 campaign, there were some doubts about whether Alonso would return to the team as he hit the free agent market. But he eventually signed a 2-year, $54 million deal in the offseason with the ability to opt out after 2025 if he so chooses.

The Mets, meanwhile, are 63-55, 6 games back of the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East.
