It’s no secret that Georgia and Tennessee don’t like each other. The Bulldogs and Volunteers will do whatever it takes to beat one another in any sport. Friday night, we were given a reminder of just how far they’ll go.

In the top of the sixth inning of each team’s SEC opener, Vols catcher Stone Lawless skied a pop up toward his own dugout. Bulldog infielders pursued the ball, but found some Tennessee players who weren’t budging when they reached the bench rail. The ball ended up falling to the ground, much to the joy of the Volunteers.

Lawless wound up striking out in the plate appearance. Two batters later, though, Manny Marin tied the game with a two-run double. Tennessee took the lead on a Henry Ford home run in the seventh inning, and extended it in the eighth on homers from both Lawless and Marin.

The Volunteers’ 7-4 victory improved them to 14-4 (1-0 SEC) on the season. Georgia fell to 15-4 (0-1 SEC) with the loss. The Vols and Bulldogs continue their series on Saturday (5 p.m. ET) and Sunday (1 p.m. ET). Saturday’s game is on SEC Network. Sunday’s will stream on SEC Network+.
