The second-ranked Texas baseball team earned a series victory over rival Oklahoma on Friday night, as left fielder Ashton Larson singled home the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning for a 4-3 comeback victory over the eighth-ranked Sooners in Austin.
Texas (22-4 overall, 6-2 SEC), which had crushed Oklahoma 14-0 in the series opener Thursday night, will look to sweep the Sooners (19-7, 4-4) for the first time in 12 years in Saturday’s series finale (5 pm ET, SEC Network).
Here’s a look at the walk-off winner:
The Longhorns scored four unanswered runs in the final four innings to secure the victory in front of a raucous UFCU Disch-Falk Field crowd of 7,990 on Friday night. Catcher Carson Tinney tied it 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth with a single up the middle, and Texas scored twice in the seventh via a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly.
Texas reliever Sam Cozart (5-0) faced the minimum through three hitless innings, striking out three in relief to pick up the victory. The Longhorns also drew a season-best 12 walks, pushing Sooners pitchers to throw 211 pitches across 9 1/3 innings.
Oklahoma’s Jackson Cleveland (2-1) took the loss. Second baseman Kyle Branch doubled home two runs in the second inning and third baseman Camden Johnson singled home a run in the fifth.
