Alabama baseball began its 3-game series vs. visiting No. 18 Florida with some incredible history. Tyler Fay tossed a complete-game no-hitter en route to Alabama earning a 6-0 shutout victory vs. Florida at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

It’s the first time since 1942 that an Alabama pitcher has thrown a nine-inning no-hitter, which was last accomplished by Eddie Owcar. Fay got the final out on fly ball by Florida’s Brendan Lawson that Justin Osterhouse caught. Fay’s teammates all gleefully mobbed him at the pitcher’s mound.

Overall, Fay had a career-high 13 strikeouts in his 132-pitch effort. Fay had at least one strikeout in seven of the nine innings. Alabama improved to 16-7 overall after its first SEC win of the season in four tries. Fay is now 4-2 after his stunning showing.

Afterwards, Florida head coach Kevin O’Sullivan was effusive in his praise for Fay’s milestone.

“Obviously, (Fay) was locating all of his pitches, changing speeds, throwing the ball on both sides,” O’Sullivan said. “Our guys kept complaining about the strike zone, but I think the umpire did a really good job behind the plate, to be quite honest with you. Certainly, we’ve got to learn from it. We can’t blame an umpire—I know that.”

Alabama and Florida will play the second game of the set on Saturday at 3 p.m. (ET).
