Wes Johnson has things humming right along for Georgia baseball, including a No. 1 overall ranking in the latest poll produced by Baseball America. Now, he’s fielding questions about potential interest in another prominent SEC job.

That would be Mississippi State with the Bulldogs already parting ways with former head coach Chris Lemonis. That announcement from MSU came at the end of April, with the program sliding. The Bulldogs have not been back to the College World Series or the Super Regional round since winning it all in 2021.

However, Johnson publicly addressed MSU’s opening wth the media on Wednesday, and he affirmed his love for Georgia and desire to stay in Athens. He did admit there are “a little more tech” upgrades to Georgia’s facilities he would like to implement, but is overall happy with the stadium.

“My kids love to tell me I’m a nerd, but, as far as the actual ballpark, I love where we’re at,” said Johnson.

Johnson did bounce around the SEC as a pitching coach until landing the head coaching job at Georgia, including a 2016 stint on the Mississippi State staff of John Cohen. After that season, Johnson coached at Arkansas and in MLB with the Minnesota Twins before joining LSU for the 2023 CWS run by the Tigers before landing in Athens.
