Five SEC players cracked the 2023 Jerry West Award watchlist for the best shooting guard in college basketball. The candidates were released on Tuesday, less than 2 weeks before the start of the season.
The SEC candidates are as follows:
- Nick Smith Jr., Arkansas
- Antonio Reeves, Kentucky
- Cason Wallace, Kentucky
- Isiaih Mosley, Missouri
- Santiago Vescovi, Tennessee
These 5 join other standouts around the country such as Houston’s Marcus Sasser, Illinois’ Terrance Shannon, Miami’s Isaiah Wong and Baylor’s Adam Flagler.
And these 5 from the SEC all have a strong chance to take home the hardware at the end of this season. The list comprises 2 freshmen and 3 seniors, with Smith and Wallace being to 2 freshmen. Vescovi has had the most success in the SEC, coming in as one of the top players in the conference for his ability to move off the ball for the Vols.
Mosley and Reeves are both transfers, with Reeves hailing from Illinois State and Mosley from Missouri State.
