Adrian Wojnarowski, who set the standard for NBA news-breakers over the past decade, is stepping away from ESPN.

Wojnarowski announced his retirement from journalism on Wednesday morning. In a statement on social media, he thanked ESPN executives for being “understanding” of his decision to “make a life change.”

“I leave with overwhelming gratitude for countless mentors and colleagues, subjects and stories, readers and viewers,” Wojnarowski said in-part. “No one has benefitted more than me from the belief, trust and generosity of others.”

Shortly after Wojnarowski announced he was stepping away from news-breaking, his new venture was announced. He’s set to take over as the general manager of St. Bonaventure’s men’s basketball program.

“I’m thrilled and humbled to return to St. Bonaventure with an opportunity to serve the university, Coach Mark Schmidt and our elite Atlantic 10 men’s basketball program,” Wojnarowski said in a press release. “In these changing times of college sports, I’m eager to join a championship program that combines high-level basketball, national television exposure, pro preparation and NIL opportunities with an intimate, supportive educational environment.”

Wojnarowski is a St. Bonaventure alum who has remained an avid fan over the years. He’ll bring a wealth of experience and knowledge from NBA circles into his new role with the Bonnies.

“I’m hopeful to share with members of our community some best practices learned from the most successful franchises and minds in the NBA and committed to opening doors globally for our players both on and off the court,” Wojnarowski added in the press release.

Wojnarowski joined ESPN in 2017.
