Alabama assistant coach Erwin Dudley doesn’t want to get ahead of himself and he doesn’t want to make it seem like Crimson Tide senior guard Latrell Wrightsell is in the clear injury-wise.

But Dudley also doesn’t want to sell his excitement short. He came out on Alabama’s sports radio show “Hey Coach” on Wednesday and said that Wrightsell has been playing in 5-on-5 scrimmages in practice as he tries to come back from an Achilles injury.

“He’s been looking really, really good,” Dudley said.

Wrightsell has dealt with a lot of injuries during his time at Alabama, and last season it all came crashing down. He only played in 8 games, averaging 11.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists, as his season was cut short because of the ruptured Achilles tendon injury.

Suddenly, Wrightsell’s season was over and it was only early December. He was a pivotal part of Alabama’s 2024 Final Four team, helping the Crimson Tide get to the Final Four for the first time in program history.

But he didn’t get to follow that up because of the Achilles injury, and that’s what he’s working toward doing this coming season. From what his assistant coach said on Wednesday, Wrightsell is on the path toward having a chance to end his Alabama career the right way.
