Armando Bacot, RJ Davis lead UNC to win over Notre Dame in emotional senior night
Armando Bacot and RJ Davis, like they have so many times in their careers, led North Carolina to a big win on Tuesday night.
The Tar Heels defeated Notre Dame 84-51 in a game that was anything but routine. It was the final home game for Bacot — and perhaps Davis — in what has been one of the most prolific careers in program history.
Bacot scored 14 points on 10 shots in his final home game in Chapel Hill. To his credit, he left the UNC faithful wanting more by draining 2 3-point attempts in the win. Prior to tonight, Bacot had made 3 long-range attempts in his entire 161-game UNC career.
In the game’s final minutes, Bacot received a curtain call for the ages from the North Carolina faithful:

Bacot is going to depart UNC as its all-time leading rebounder — a record he set last season — and could rise as high as No. 2 on the program’s all-time scoring list behind only Tyler Hansbrough. He’s currently No. 3 all-time with 2,231 points in his collegiate career.
Bacot and Davis are amongst the most-accomplished tandems in UNC history. Their most notable achievement is leading Carolina to the 2022 national title game and defeating Duke in the Final Four to end Mike Krzyzewski’s coaching career.
For Davis, this may not be the end. He’s a senior, but has an addition year of eligibility remaining because of the pandemic if he chooses to use it. He has had a career-best season in 2023, leading the Tar Heels in scoring with 21.4 points per game.
North Carolina will close out the 2023-24 regular season on Saturday against Duke in Durham.
