College basketball season has generated plenty of engagement in social media this season, and last month, a pair of SEC programs were at or near the top, according to a branding and digital strategy company.
Kentucky generated 1.8 million interactions from the official team social accounts from Instagram, Twitter and Facebook in January, which led the country. Auburn meanwhile had 1.5 million interactions, which ranked fourth behind Duke and North Carolina.
It’s not a coincidence that Auburn being ranked No. 1, and Kentucky being ranked No. 5 in the AP Top 25 poll helps with fan engagement.
Auburn gets a stiff test on Tuesday night at Arkansas, which will have a white out in Bud Walton Arena. That game will be on ESPN2, and is set for a 6 p.m. local time tipoff on ESPN2. Kentucky, meanwhile, will meet South Carolina in Columbia for a 7 p.m. ET tipoff on ESPN.
Both teams bring impressive streaks into Tuesday’s tussle. Auburn has won 19 games in a row and is 7-0 on the road this season while the Razorbacks have won 8 straight and are 13-1 at home.
Kentucky has become a very solid road team, including a win at Kansas on Jan. 30, then won at Alabama this past Saturday. Overall, the Cats have won 4 of their last 5 on the road.
