Bruce Pearl openly admitted this week that nepotism helped his son Steven Pearl secure the Auburn job. He didn’t allude to it, he didn’t let it slip, he outright said it while appearing on Don’t @ Me with Dan Dakich on Wednesday.

Pearl, who has worked with Auburn since 2014, was named Auburn’s head coach soon after Bruce Pearl’s surprise retirement just before the start of this season. Bruce stepped away right before preseason practice began, leaving his son as the top candidate for the job and players with no real option but to stay with the Tigers.

Hey, honesty is rare these days. Check it out:

Auburn’s NCAA Tournament case is among the most controversial in the sport right now. The Tigers boast some impressive wins over Florida, Arkansas, Kentucky, St. John’s and NC State, but also have 14 losses on the year and have lost 7 of their last 9. As it currently stands, the Tigers have a 25% chance to reach the Round of 64 in the NCAA Tournament.

The path is definitely there for Auburn, though. It started last night with a win over LSU, and it’ll have to carry that momentum into a matchup against Alabama on Saturday. Win against the Crimson Tide and score a few wins in the SEC Tournament and Auburn should be in business.
