Charles Bediako receives ruling on further attempt to play college basketball

Charles Bediako has been one of the most controversial figures in all of college basketball, as he was granted a TRO earlier in January that allowed him to come back and play college basketball despite leaving Alabama in 2023.

However, he hasn’t played since February 7 as a judge ruled him to be ineligible.

That hasn’t stopped Bediako from trying to see the court, however. Bediako filed a request for an injunction earlier this week to keep playing while his appeal is still pending. On Tuesday morning, however, judge Daniel Pruet ruled against Bediako, marking him (still) ineligible to play at Alabama.

Bediako played in 5 games for Alabama this season, and he averaged 10 points and 4.6 rebounds. The Crimson Tide went 3-2 in those games, winning against Texas A&M, Auburn and Missouri.

Bediako entered the NBA in 2023, but went undrafted and signed a two-way contract with the San Antonio Spurs. He played in the G-League, but despite that was able to get the TRO in January to play for the Crimson Tide.

Unless there is an unforeseen appeal that rules in his favor, Bediako’s time at Alabama seems to be over. Despite losing Bediako, the Crimson Tide are 20-7 on the season and are well on their way to making it to the NCAA Tournament. Alabama will take on Mississippi State on Wednesday without Bediako.

Alabama currently has a 50% chance to reach the Sweet 16 according to Kalshi. Here’s a look at the latest odds:
