Mississippi State guard Jayden Epps exited Saturday’s game against South Carolina early, having to be helped off the court by assistant coaches.
Epps received some good news on Monday, though. Bulldogs head coach Chris Jans told reporters that Epps has avoided a major injury. Jans also said that he’ll rehab and will play when he is available.
Here’s his full quote regarding Epps.
“Fortunately, Jayden avoided any major injury,” Jans said. “The way it looked and walking out there, it was scary for him, Jayden’s family, his coaches and everybody. He had a lot of pain. But fortunately, and like I said, they looked at him when we got home and our doctors looked at him that afternoon with his injury. In terms of going forward, he’s going to rehab and play when he is available.”
Epps is in his fourth year of college basketball and his first year with Mississippi State. The former Illinois and Georgetown guard is averaging 14 points per game this season, though he’s struggled with efficiency at 40% from the field. However, he had 13 points across just 13 minutes before being forced to exit Saturday against the Gamecocks. Mississippi State went on to lose that game 97-89.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Wednesday against Alabama.
