Clemson looks grotesque in first half as ACC’s horrible NCAA Tournament start continues

Clemson, a 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament, breezed through the ACC during the regular season but ran into a brick wall in the Round of 64 on Thursday.

Facing 12-seed McNeese State, the champion from the Southland Conference, Clemson put up a pitiful 13 points in the first 20 minutes and trailed 31-13 at the half. The Tigers went just 1 for 15 from 3-point territory in that forgettable first half. They had 5 measly field goals on 24 attempts and didn’t take care of the ball either, turning it over 10 times.

In the tourney, with everything on the line, it was another bad example of ACC basketball. The once mighty conference only got 4 teams into the tournament, and that number was quickly reduced to 3 after Louisville’s 14-point loss to Creighton earlier Thursday.

Now, with Clemson in danger of leaving the party very early like Louisville did, the conference could be down to just Duke and North Carolina by the end of the first afternoon of the tournament.

Not surprisingly, the reaction on social media was swift and vicious. Here is a sampling:
