The College Basketball AP Top 25 was updated on Monday following the end of the regular season, and there is a new No. 1 entering major conference tournament action.
This time, it is Duke ascending to the top spot after riding at No. 2 overall behind Auburn for much of the season. The Blue Devils wrapped up the outright ACC title and the No. 1 overall spot in the ACC Basketball Tournament recently and are riding an 8-game winning streak into the postseason.
Meanwhile, the Tigers dropped the final 2 games of the regular season after a convincing outright title in the SEC, pushing Auburn down to No. 3 on the latest poll. Houston, winners of the Big 12, was No. 2 in the country.
The vote for No. 1 overall was hardly a consensus. Duke dominated with 52 of the available first-place votes but Houston (5) and Auburn (4) also split the vote.
It should be said that the AP Poll does not dictate the seeding for the NCAA Tournament, but it is an interesting poll at this juncture. Duke also led the latest NET Rankings, but Auburn still dominates Quad 1 with a 16-4 overall record. No one else in the country has more than 12 Q1 wins.
Duke has also surged to the top of the March Madness odds, checking in at +340 to win it all per DraftKings. Auburn (+380) is 2nd while Florida (+700) and Houston (+750) round out the top four, and fans can use the best betting apps to get into the action.
